He sold this removal to Marshall and Lily for another three slaps, which Marshall took immediate advantage of, using two of them.

The final slap, given to Barney on the day of his wedding to Robin in Season 9, Episode 22, "The End of the Aisle," was given to him by Marshall in order to calm him down as pre-wedding jitters were getting the best of him. The Slap Bet accompanied many big moments in the friends' lives, so even though it seems like a mere comedic gag, its presence helped dictate the flow of HIMYM 's story.
